While working in the Saint Louis Public School District, Billie conducted a number of in-services for
personnel on a wide range of topics such as team building, effective communication, improving discipline
with dignity, conflict mediation and stress management. She has shared her expertise and insight on how
to dismantle racism and build multicultural alliances among people in a number of places both
internationally such as the Virgin Islands and South Africa and nationally in school districts in Portland
Oregon, Wichita and Winfield Kansas, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Long Beach California.
Additionally, she has worked with many school districts in Missouri to help them examine how the
oppression of racism can perpetuate the achievement gap between People of Color and Whites. Dr.
Mayo has spoken at a number of Learning Forward Conferences, as well as at other conferences such as
the Association of Baha’i Studies, the YWCA, Professional Women’s Organization (POW), Saint Louis
Association of Black Administrators (SLABA), The White Privilege Conference and many others. She has
served as President of the Board of Interfaith Partnership, STL and is a member of the Cabinet of
Interfaith Partnership.
